Billabong one of the big players in surf wear industry has extended its commitment to Bali, one of the world’s leading surfing playgrounds, with the opening of its biggest concept store in Australasia. A 600 square metre licensed retail store extends over three levels in a prominent position on Legian Street, near Poppies Lane in the Kuta Legian tourist area.
The shop includes a full range of apparel and accessories, as well as complementary brands. The third floor also houses a dedicated surf hardware division, a lounge area to view surf films, and a surf photography gallery.
General Manager South East Asia, Chris James, said the store, which complements an existing flagship store which opened in May in nearby Kuta Square, demonstrates the brand’s commitment to the area.“The opening is a significant milestone event and is indicative of the company’s commitment to build on its investment in Bali,” said James as quoted by Surfersvillage Global Surf News.
“It was a spectacular event and a great reflection of the excitement we have for the whole Indonesian region,” James quoted as saying.
“This is a destination that is synonymous with surfing and it is a location in which we have great confidence.” The store opening was attended by visiting dignitaries, retailers and the local surfing community and included a traditional Balinese dance ceremony, a surfboard painting competition, a fashion parade and general entertainment.
Billabong has been particularly active in Bali, with two of the three rounds of the Billabong Pro Junior Series Indonesia completed in recent months. The final round is scheduled to run from August 2-5 at Canggu beach and is expected to attract a quality international field. “The Billabong Pro Junior Series has been a tremendous success and has given the local Indonesian surfers valuable experience against some of the best juniors from areas including Australia,” said Mr James.
